Howard County Arkansas Fairgrounds Events

The Howard County Fairgrounds are on the west side of Nashville, Arkansas, in the southwest corner of the state. The Howard County Fair opens with a parade down Main Street and ends with bull and bronc riding in the fair arena. Several other Howard Counties have fairs (Maryland, Texas, Iowa, and others), and a Maryland fair that was also in its 80th year in 2026 shows up in many results. If you see Midway Boulevard, a float parade in August on Midway Boulevard, or a Kids & Critters Barn, that’s the Maryland one.

Howard County Fairgrounds Overview

Location

The fairgrounds are at 1565 US Highway 371 West, Nashville, Arkansas 71852. A 2017 newspaper article described them as west of Nashville on Highway 278, so the grounds sit where the two highways run together or cross on the west side of town. Use the 1565 US 371 address for GPS. The association’s mailing address is PO Box 38, Nashville.

Who Runs It

The Howard County Fair and Livestock Association runs the fair and the fairgrounds. It’s a nonprofit that registered with the IRS in 2014, and its stated mission is to promote, improve, and enrich the lives of rural and farm families in the county. In its federal filing, the association describes the fair as a teaching tool for people not involved in agriculture and a chance for people in agriculture to show their livestock, produce, crafts, and skills. Fair board members run it as volunteers. The Howard County Extension office handles youth livestock registration.

Why It Matters Here

The fair is a growth story. A fair board member told the Nashville Rotary Club that most county fairs are shrinking and Howard County’s is growing, crediting the community and the current board. The county’s 4-H agent said that when she took the job five years earlier, about 50 animals were shown at the county fair, and the year she spoke there were 160 animals and 94 exhibitors. Another year’s report mentioned 98 exhibitors and more than 200 head of livestock.

Upcoming Events at Howard County Fairgrounds

What’s Documented

  • The Howard County Fair, now held in late August
  • The Lucky Clover Showdown Jackpot Show, a 4-H livestock jackpot show held at the fairgrounds in July. Entry fees were $25 per head for market animals and $15 for dairy animals, with pens first come, first served
  • Farm Day, an educational day for fourth graders from Nashville, Mineral Springs, Dierks, and Umpire schools. About 220 students rotated through ten stations covering forestry, beef, farm equipment, animals, and the county Extension office
  • Fair board events like the ranch rodeo, held during fair week

I found no confirmed events booked at the fairgrounds for the rest of 2026. I also found no documented gun shows, flea markets, or motocross events at this site.

Seasonal Pattern

Summer brings the jackpot show and Farm Day. The fair has shifted over the years from early September to late August. In 2023 it ran September 4–9, and in 2026 it ran August 24–29. For anything outside fair week, check the association’s page.

Finding the Current Schedule

Local radio in Nashville carries fair board announcements and schedule updates every year, and the Nashville Chamber of Commerce posts the parade. The Extension office, 870-845-7517, handles 4-H and livestock questions.

Visitors exploring Howard County Arkansas Fairgrounds Events can also discover local celebrations through Hot Spring County Arkansas Fairgrounds Events. Exploring both counties helps families and travelers discover regional heritage, find seasonal activities, and enjoy community events throughout Arkansas.

Renting the Grounds

I could not find a rental rate sheet or booking contact. Ask the fair association.

There was also a Best Decorated Livestock contest, with stalls decorated by Tuesday and judged on creativity, attractiveness, and cleanliness, with one winner per species division.

I could not confirm 2027 dates. Based on 2026, expect a Monday-to-Saturday week in late August, but the board has moved the date before.

Livestock Shows

In past years the shows have included swine, beef cattle, dairy cattle, dairy goats, meat goats, sheep, rabbits, and poultry. A livestock pageant and an Old Timers Show have been Thursday-night traditions. In earlier years the old-timers show let people nominate someone for $5, with proceeds going to the fair board’s scholarship program.

Midway

A carnival runs the last few days. In 2026 it ran Thursday through Saturday, 6 to 11 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets were $1 each or 24 for $20, with most rides taking four or five tickets, and an armband option was also offered. A 2022 report from the fair board said there were 12 to 15 rides. In 2017 the fair had no carnival at all, so check each year.

Other Events

The fair has hosted a youth talent show, whose overall winner has advanced to the Southwest Arkansas District Fair in Hope and then the Arkansas State Fair. It has also had a dog show, a ranch rodeo, and a Senior Citizens Day. The fair kitchen serves food during the week, and its proceeds go to upkeep of the facilities and to encourage 4-H and FFA programs.

Admission

A fair aggregator listed gate admission and parking as free for 2026. Saturday night’s bull and bronc event is ticketed. Confirm admission policy with the association before you go.

Facilities and Grounds

Documented:

  • A fair arena used for the rodeo and bull and bronc riding
  • Exhibit buildings, which in 2017 were described as overflowing
  • A fair kitchen
  • A Fair Stage for live music
  • Livestock pens, used for the jackpot show

The fair board said in 2022 it had made upgrades to the facilities.

Not confirmed: arena capacity, stall counts, camping and RV hookups, ADA features, first aid, ATMs, and parking capacity.

Getting to Howard County Fairgrounds

From downtown Nashville, head west on US 371. The fairgrounds are at 1565 US 371. Nashville is the county seat. I found no public transit or fair-week shuttle service. Rideshare is not reliable in a town this size, so arrange a ride.

4-H and FFA at the Fairgrounds

The Extension Office’s Role

The Howard County 4-H agent coordinates youth livestock registration and 4-H activities. Howard County 4-H members show at the county fair, the Four States Livestock Show, the Southwest District Fair, the Arkansas Youth Expo, and the Arkansas State Fair. A Howard County 4-H member won grand champion at the Arkansas State Fair with a Nubian dairy goat.

FFA

Nashville FFA and Dierks FFA helped with Farm Day. I could not confirm a full list of FFA chapters that show at the fair.

Premium Sale

The junior livestock premium sale is held Friday morning, with a luncheon for exhibitors and buyers. In 2026 it began at 9 a.m. In 2019 the board moved it from Saturday to Friday morning. I could not find details on who can bid or how proceeds are handled.

Special Events Beyond the Annual Fair

The documented non-fair events are the jackpot show and Farm Day. I found no evidence of regular gun shows, swap meets, or motocross events at the grounds.

History of Howard County Fairgrounds

The association registered in 2014. The fair has moved dates over the years, from early September to late August. I could not find the year the fair was founded, when the US 371 site opened, attendance records, or any record of cancellations.
