Bibb County Alabama Fairgrounds Events
The county was created by the Alabama Territorial Legislature on February 7, 1818, a year before statehood. It was first called Cahaba County after the river and was renamed in 1820 for William Wyatt Bibb, Alabama’s first governor. Bibb covers about 625 square miles in the middle of the state, between Birmingham, Tuscaloosa and Montgomery, and it borders Jefferson, Shelby, Chilton, Perry, Hale and Tuscaloosa counties.
The 2020 Census counted 22,293 residents. Centreville is the county seat (2,627 people) and Brent is the largest city (4,768). The other communities are West Blocton, Woodstock and Vance. The county runs 10 public schools, and the 1902 courthouse in Centreville hosts the county commission’s twice-monthly meetings.
Bibb County is a dry county, except in the four towns of Brent, Centreville, West Blocton and Woodstock, which voted to allow alcohol sales. That matters for any event planner, since it shapes what a festival or fundraiser can serve and where.
Getting Around
US 82 is the main east-west route through the southern part of the county. AL-5, AL-25, AL-58 and AL-219 cover the rest. AL-219 runs north from Centreville about seven miles to AL-5, and AL-5 passes through West Blocton, about 12 miles north of Brent and Centreville. Brent and Centreville sit on opposite banks of the Cahaba River. The Talladega National Forest surrounds Brent on three sides, and Bibb County Airport is the county’s only public airport.
For anyone flying in, Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International is about an hour away, and there are no major commercial airports in the county.
The Bibb County Fair and Activities Fund
The only fair-related organization found is the Bibb County Fair and Activities Fund, listed at 305 Main St in Brent. A nonprofit directory describes it as a music festival or event organization founded in 2019. Beyond that found no website, event calendar, vendor application, entry rules or admission price.
Couldn’t confirm that it owns grounds or runs an annual fair, and the Main Street address looks like an office or mailing address. If you want to know what it plans, ask it directly, through the Brent city offices or the Bibb County Commission if you can’t find a direct contact.
Livestock and 4-H/FFA
Youth livestock in Alabama runs through the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s 4-H program and through FFA chapters at the high schools. West Blocton High School is one of the county’s schools. Bibb County’s 4-H and FFA families generally travel for shows. The 2026-27 state calendar includes:
- Alabama National Fair, Montgomery: youth beef and goat shows October 9-10, 2026, dairy quiz bowl and judging October 13, and sheep and swine shows October 16-17.
- North Alabama Junior Beef Expo, Blount County: December 4-5, 2026.
- 4-H Fur and Feathers Show, Autauga County: December 4-5, 2026.
- State Livestock Exposition shows, Montgomery: cattle and swine March 7-8, 2027, dairy March 9, and the judging contest March 10.
- State 4-H Horse Show, Montgomery: May 21-23, 2027.
- State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest, Auburn: June 15, 2027.
To enter any of these, start with the Bibb County Extension office or your school’s FFA advisor. Rules, deadlines and premium books come from each show’s host, so check them early.
Fairs Within Reach
The Alabama National Fair in Montgomery (October 8-18, 2026) is the largest option, with livestock shows, a youth sale and a full midway. Neighboring counties may hold their own county fairs, and their schedules change from year to year, so check each county’s official page or Facebook for dates. For craft shows and festivals statewide, fairsandfestivals.net keeps an Alabama listing.
Alabama is home to many county fairgrounds that host seasonal fairs, community gatherings, family activities, and local entertainment. For those interested in discovering events across different parts of the state, BIBB County Alabama Fairgrounds Events can provide a look at local celebrations and activities, while Barbour County Alabama Fairgrounds Events offer another opportunity to experience county fairs, community traditions, and family-friendly events in Alabama.
What Bibb County Is Known For
Even without a fairgrounds, the county has plenty of local color.
Iron, coal and timber. Bibb County was rich in ore, coal, clay and timber. Small iron forges appeared in the north and northeast in the early 1800s, and the ruins of Bibb Furnace at Brierfield Ironworks are still there. A lumber and coal boom in the late 1800s brought immigrant families from Belgium, Italy, Austria, Hungary and Bulgaria. West Blocton’s Coke Ovens Park preserves the remains of 460 beehive coke ovens from that era.
Miller’s Pottery, Brent. One of the oldest continuously operating potteries in the United States.
The Cahaba and the forest. The Cahaba River, the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge, Bibb County Lake, the Bibb County State Public Fishing Lake and the Talladega National Forest’s Oakmulgee district draw paddlers, hikers and anglers.
Weather. Centreville recorded Alabama’s highest temperature on September 6, 1925, at 112°F. Outdoor events in the area plan around heat in summer.
Storms and Rebuilding
Brent has taken some direct hits. A tornado on May 27, 1973 destroyed about 90 percent of the city’s buildings and killed five people. An EF3 tornado on March 25, 2021 damaged Brent and Centreville and left Bibb County Airport a total loss. Any community event in the county has some history of recovery behind it.
Not the Same Place: Macon-Bibb County, Georgia
Many searches for “Bibb County fairgrounds” are really about Georgia. Macon-Bibb County has a documented fair history. The Digital Library of Georgia holds a 1960 photograph of the Georgia State Fair midway in Macon, and local listings point to Central City Park, now Carolyn Crayton Park (150 Willie Smokey Glover Dr, Macon, GA 31201), as its historic home. The park hosts food truck events and other community gatherings.
The current statewide fair is the Georgia National Fair, held at the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agriculture Center, 401 Golden Isles Pkwy, Perry, GA 31069. That is in Houston County, not Bibb. For Macon-Bibb parks and event information, the county Recreation Department can be reached at (478) 219-2001.
